Minutes SPDTA meeting 15-9-24

1. Updates and news from all attendees:

Wild Rumpus is planning a large scale outdoor spectacular at Rudyard over the May Bank Holiday weekend including recreating the Blondin tightrope walk.

CVLLP have created a graphic of Points of Interest in the Churnet Valley and there is a leaflet drop planned to all houses in the area. 

CVLLP project run by SPDTA is called People who Shaped the Valley and is being project managed by James Sells There are opportunities for SPDTA members to get involved and there will be resulting materials, events and training for SPDTA members to make use of.

Enjoy  Staffordshire  updated us on:

 #StaffordshireDay to be held 1st May. It is 1000 years since the first mention of Staffordshire so the community are encouraged to organise events to celebrate what’s great about Staffordshire.

150 year anniversary of Kipling will be appearing on The One Show and Countryfile are coming.

300th anniversary of Capability Brown

2016 is the Year of the English Garden – there are 11 in Staffordshire

DMP has created a cluster focussed on Waterways. The idea is to make better use of canals from tourism perspective. This will have a spin off to local businesses.

The literature swap is planned for March 10th and Enjoy Staffordshire asked for feedback on what local businesses would like from the afternoon.

2. Laver Leisure – Moneystone Park

The developers have requested a meeting so it was suggested that we arrange this after the result of the planning application is known.

3. Membership Fees

SPDTA membership is currently free. Enjoy Staffordshire membership is £150 – a possible option is to receive EnjoyStaffs discount with an SPDTA paid membership, to be discussed.

4. Broadband

£3k grant available –

5. Alton Towers

Attendees discussed the impact on their businesses of the accident at the theme park. Alton Towers will not be opening at February half term in 2016.
